Adequate Buffering

All movies on this web site allow instant watching while the movie is in progress to download. Buffering describes a situation which occurs when a streaming media player is saving portions of a streaming media file to local storage for playback. Each movie is encoded with a specific data rate, so it can play via the Internet. The data rate is measured in Kbps (Kilobit per second). Higher data rate allows to play movies in better quality and with a larger frame size. If your Internet connection cannot catch up with the required data rate, your player needs Buffering. Some player do it automatic, some others don't. When data rate is not sufficient, allow the download bar to move substantially to the right, before you start the movie. If the movie starts automatically, stop it and wait.

Most of our movies are recorded in High Definition (HDV 1080i) and are down-converted to a lower frame size and de-interlaced for computer playback. Data rates are as low as 700Kbps and go up to 5000 Kbps (=5Mbps) for full screen movies. Here a short overview about available data rates of common Internet services:

Dial up: 56Kbps. This data speed requires high buffering time of several minutes or even hours.
DSL
ranges from 700Kbps up to 3000Kbps. Most of our movies should stream well with a good DSL connection and do not require long Buffering time.
Cable works very well up to 10Mbps or more. Most of our movies can be watched in real-time.
FIOS or Fiber Optics is the most optimum. It starts with about 15Mbs and goes op to 50Mbps or more.

Our Movies are encoded either in Windows Media, QuickTime or Flash. To watch the movies you need the appropriate software. It's called a Media Player. All players you can download for free, if they are not installed on your local computer. Click the blue links below to do so.

Windows Media
(download progress -> blue bar | play head -> blue oval circle)

The blue line shows the download progress, the oval blue circle is the play head. It moves to the right when the movie is playing. If the download progress bar moves slower than your play head you will need Buffering time!

Quick Time
(download progress -> gray bar | play head -> gray circle).

Flash
Controls (download progress -> dark gray bar, play head -> white triangle)
